Born on the 22nd of semptember 1976, At the age of 17 he was a soccer member of the 1994 Fifa World cup winning squad with the Brazilian team,though he did not play throughout the tournament.The same year he joined the dutch league club PSV Eindhoven.He was purchased by FC Barcelona of spain in 1996 in 1996 he won the spanish super cup with his club FC Barcelona and also won the UEFA Cup winners cup IN 1997 with FC Barcelona.He won the American cup in 1997 with Brazil national team.
He emerged the spanish Laliga Top Scorer in 1997.He won the 1996 FIFA World Footballer of the Year,then in 1997 he moved to internazionale Milan of italy,He won the Fifa Confedration Cup in 1997 with the Brazil national team.He won the FIFA World Footballer of the Year in 1997,he won the italian seria A footballer of the year in 1998.In 1998 allthough his team Brazil lost 3-0 to to france in the worldcup final , he scored four goals in the tournament,He also won the anerican cup in 1999 with the Brazil national team. While in inter milan he had a fatal injury that kept him out of playing football for almost two years,After recovering he came back to his top form in the 2002 FIFA World Cup hosted by korea/japan,he won the Fifa world cup with the Brazil national team,he scored Eight goals in the tournament to emerge the Fifa world cup scoreer for that year and also won the golden boot as the top scorer also scoring both goals in the Final which Brazil defeated the German national team by 2-0,he won the European footballer of the year in 2002 and also the FIFA World Footballer of the year in 2002.In 2002 he transfered to Real madrid fc of spain,he won the spanish league with his club Real Madrid Fc in 2003 and the spanish super cup in 2003,he emerged the spanish La liga Top Scorer in 2004.
He transfered to AC Milan of italy in january 2007,he was injured in 2008
